Book Review: “Night Night Bible Stories: 30 Stories for Bedtime” by Amy Parker

As a Christian mom who desires to surround my kiddos with books which will point them to Jesus, I end up with a lot of Bible storybooks for kids hanging around. When the opportunity arose to review Amy Parker’s new Bible storybook, however, I immediately jumped in to do so, despite our ever-growing list of such books.

I have to say, I’m really glad I did!

This Bible story book is different, in that it truly is specifically great for reading before bedtime. Consider, first, its official description:

Before you say good night, snuggle your kids cozy close and enjoy favorite Bible stories for bedtime. Amy Parker and Virginia Allyn, the author-illustrator pair you know and love from the bestselling books Night Night, Farm and Night Night, Train, have teamed up again for their first bedtime Bible storybook.

Night Night Bible Stories includes 30 stories from the Old and New Testaments told in narration. Each Bible story features rhyming takeaways to remind little ones of God’s love and care along with a sweet bedtime prayer. Stories include:

•            When the World Was Made

•            The World’s Bravest Queen

•            An Angel Visits Mary

•            Jesus Lives

•            Go Tell the World!

Bedtime is the perfect time to share with your children timeless messages of faith from the Bible. For old and new fans of Amy Parker’s Night Night books, Night Night Bible Stories is sure help your little ones fall asleep feeling safe and loved.

I find that to be a very apt description of the tone and feel of this book (and those aspects being what makes it perfect for nighttime reading!).

Each of the 30 Bible stories begins with a 6-8 page retelling of a story from the Bible and ends with a nighttime prayer and a sweet little rhyme intended to comfort your child and instill God’s truth into his or her heart. It’s delightful, because it will inspire God’s Word to be what your children are meditating on as they drift off into a peaceful sleep.

My kids (ages 4 and 2) both really enjoy this Bible storybook even though it can even be geared towards children a little older than they are. Each daily reading was short enough to keep their attention while also being long enough to capture several important truths. The lyrical, whimsical nature of the writing combined with the beautiful, full-color illustrations make this Bible storybook the perfect addition to your family’s library! I highly recommend it.
