Product Review: Watercolor Workbooks and Classes from Emily Lex

I have wanted to learn how to watercolor paint for years now, but had just never taken the time to actually pursue this art form as a hobby. You can imagine my excitement, then, when I was offered the opportunity to receive and review a complementary set of watercolor workbooks and online watercoloring classes from Emily Lex!

When I received this incredibly fun package in the mail, I was ecstatic! These workbooks are absolutely beautiful and give easy-to-understand, thorough, step-by-step instructions for how to produce your own beautiful watercolor prints based on illustrations designed by Emily.

What’s so awesome about these particular workbooks is that you don’t have to be an artist at all in order to get started with watercolor projects, because Emily herself provides the initial sketches – right there in the workbook!- for each of the watercolor designs (see, for example, the butterfly sketch in the above photo). This was a huge relief to me, because I cannot draw to save my life!

You are provided with the foundational sketch you need for each picture and then given step-by-step instructions for the actual painting portion of the project. In addition, before you even access any of the actual projects in the workbooks, Emily first provides you with helpful info on supplies and techniques. These workbooks for watercolor painting animals and flowers are whimsical, beautiful, and truly all you need to begin to learn how to watercolor paint for yourself (even the watercolor paper for your projects is already included right there in the workbook)!

Now let me tell you all about her classes! Emily’s Simplified Watercolor Online Art Class  is amazing! Comprised of 10 video lessons, a bonus lesson, and bonus watercolor sketch pages, this class provides you with a deep dive into everything you need to know in order to become a proficient watercolor artist. She covers the topic of supplies (including the difference between cold press and hot press, pan paints and tube paints, flat brushes and round brushes and what this is important), the proper water-to-paint ratio, how to blend, different brush strokes and how to fix a mistake, creating any color from primary colors and any shade by just adding water, dot and blending practice, creating ombre seascapes, taking a simple pencil sketch and adding watercolor to make one-of-a-kind illustrations, using your paints and paintbrush to create special lettered art, and more! This extensive, step-by-step class would make the perfect gift!

Emily also offers a watercolor for kids class as well as a simplified penmanship and hand-lettering class!

In addition to the ease of use and high quality of these beautiful and educational resources, what I especially love is that Emily Lex is a fellow believer in Christ who takes her talent for watercoloring and uses it to produce Scripture cards for both adults and kids, as well as encouraging Christian living and children’s books. I have been thoroughly impressed with everything I have received from Emily, and highly recommend that you check out her beautiful resources!
